Violence in the Games Industry

For as long as I can remember, Violence in the Games Industry has been a topic of much heated debate and controversy.

Many claim that violence in games is more dangerous than violence in passive media (e.g. film and literature). Others state that this is not the case, and that enacting these violent scenarios can act as a vent and lower violence in real life. Whatever the case, I’m here to argue a more tangential point:

Violence has become a crutch for the Games Industry.


The New Toy Cycle

Once in a while, some clever person in the games industry, who is neither Shiggy nor Carmack, will invent a new gameplay mechanic, visual style/feature, or other miscellaneous thing that they feel can contribute to the gaming landscape.
